Below is an email I sent out earlier this week to the participants of one of my Vancouver boot camps. I thought I’d post the email here in order to share with you what makes my boot camp program different than the other boot camps being run in Vancouver.

Hi gang,

I wanted to send you some thoughts that are on my mind after this mornings workout (you all did FANTASTIC by the way). My apologies for the long email, but as you can probably tell from reading this (if it wasn’t clear already), I’m extremely passionate about this stuff, and I want to make sure you all see amazing results this month.

After your workout this morning, once you had left the park and I was packing up all my gear, I ended up getting into a telephone conversation with my sister (which lasted 45 minutes) and I sat on a park bench the entire time chatting with her about how my class went (she has been a personal trainer for 15 years) and also observing a boot camp class (being run by another company) that was going on in front of me.

Watching the other company’s boot camp class, the following became painfully clear to me: their class is run almost entirely based on trying to make the workouts fun for the participants, and this is done at the complete disregard of doing anything remotely effective towards fat loss, muscle toning, improved fitness, etc.

Everyone in that class had their tiny little 2 lb dumbbells, and they were hopping around the basketball court, doing “fun” exercises, and probably not realizing that they can do that style of workout for 20 years and never see a single result, other than developing a complete mastery of doing pointless exercises with 2 lb dumbbells.

Which brings me to the main point of this email. The focus of my bootcamp classes was already primarily based on getting you all the results that you’re looking for, but moving forward that’s going to be an even more important focus of the workouts. Watching that other workout this morning just completely lit a fire under my ass to make my group workout the most positively results based classes that have ever been devised.

My background is in bodybuilding, which is a world where every single workout is based on seeing a progression from the previous workout. With progression in performance, comes progression in fitness and aesthetics.

As you work towards improving in various key areas of performance, you’re going to also see some incredible improvements in the aesthetic areas that you’re looking to improve.

So in summary, there may be some times this month where you hate me as I’m hollering at you to push for the 12th, 13th, 14th repetition in a difficult set of pushups from your toes. And as you collapse onto your mat from exhaustion, and your chest and triceps are burning from the lactic acid buildup (a byproduct of intense exercise), you might notice the gang on the other side of the park with their 2 lb dumbbells, and ask yourself whether you’d rather be with them. But ultimately, you want results, which is why you’ve chosen my Vancouver boot camp program. I intend to do whatever is necessary to ensure your success this month, and beyond.

Mike
