This past summer I had arthroscopic surgery on my knee to fix a meniscus tear that I had suffered last year while doing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). After tearing the meniscus in my right knee in the spring of 2010, there wasn’t a single day that my knee wasn’t sore, and most days my knee was extremely sore. That lasted for over a year until I had arthroscopic surgery. Since having surgery, my knee has felt wonderful, so I just wanted to write a quick blog post about the surgeon that did such a great job performing the surgery on my knee.

Dr. John Arthur is an orthopedic surgeon in Richmond, BC. I was referred to Dr. Arthur by my doctor in downtown Vancouver after getting an MRI and confirming that there was a pretty bad tear in the medial meniscus in my right knee. From my first meeting with Dr. Arthur, through the surgery, and the follow-up visit after the surgery, my entire experience with Dr. Arthur was 100% positive.

During my initial visit to Dr. Arthur’s office in Richmond, he went over the results of my MRI with me so that I understood exactly what was wrong with my knee and how he was going to fix it during the surgery. I left that consultation feeling very confident in my decision to have surgery on my knee, and I was equally confident that I was in great hands with Dr. Arthur.

Dr. Arthur performed the surgery on me at Richmond General Hospital, and all aspects of the surgery went very smoothly. Shortly before I was brought into the operating room to have the surgery, Dr. Arthur met with me to see if I had any questions I wanted to discuss with him. Although I didn’t have any questions for him, it really calmed my nerves to have him stop by and check in with me prior to the surgery, and I really appreciated that.

A few days after the surgery I went back to see Dr. Arthur at his office, and he explained exactly how the surgery went and what he needed to do to my knee in order to fix the torn meniscus. After having the surgery, I had been very interested to talking with him to find out exactly how the surgery went, so I really appreciated that follow-up visit and that he was able to see me so soon after the surgery to talk about those details with me.

It’s been a little over four months since I had the surgery, and my knee feels great. No pain whatsoever. Prior to having the surgery done, I had pain in my knee 24/7. Since having the surgery, my knee has felt great 24/7. I am very grateful to Dr. Arthur for doing such a great job performing the surgery on my knee. If you are in the lower mainland and are in need of an orthopedic surgeon, I highly recommend that you go see Dr. John Arthur in Richmond, BC.
